As the temps dip lower and lower and you reach for your coziest sweaters, hats, and scarves, so too will you want to reach for a robust beverage that stands up to the chill. There’s a cast of winter wines that will keep you just as warm as a hot toddy—and pair perfectly with comforting dishes like pasta. Here are five of our favorites, as well as what to pair them with when you join us at Mulino.
Nebbiolo
Pale in color like Pinot Noir, Nebbiolo traditionally has strong tannins and acidity. Our bottle of Ravera, Barolo ’15 Piemonte boasts a bold body, ripe fruit and aged leather notes, and small hints of pepper on the finish.
Best Paired With: Our risotto or charcuterie
Chardonnay
Who says winter is just for red wines?! Full-bodied and complex Chardonnay is a great option year-round and pairs well with a lot of foods. Our Edorado Chardonnay, available by the glass, has a nice golden color with flavors of lemon, vanilla, and light oak.
Best Paired With: Our carbonara or fish of the day
Malbec
With its intense fruit notes and punchy flavor, Malbec is the perfect winter wine. Our Visconde Di Borba Reserva ’16 combines Cab, Malbec, and Merlot to produce a bold stone fruit taste and bright acidity.
Best Paired With: Our chef’s cut of meat or roasted zucchini

Sangiovese
A high-acid and high-tannin Italian wine, Sangiovese is traditionally rustic and complex. We offer several Sangioveses at Mulino, including a Felsina Chiani ’18 with notes of cherry, red fruit, vanilla, tobacco, smoke, and leather; and a Sanlorenzo Brunello Di Montalcino Riserva ’15 Tuscany with notes of red currant, spiced plum, and vanilla.
Best Paired With: Any of our pizzas or red sauce-based pastas
Cabernet Sauvignon
A classic for a reason, cab sauv can be enjoyed throughout the year, and we especially love it during the wintertime due to its layered and complex qualities. Try our earthy Scala Del, Cartoiza ’15 for delicious notes of oak, vanilla, and leather, with subtle hints of cherry and raspberry.
Best Paired With: Our red wine-braised lamb shank or bolognese
