October 25, 2023, is a special day for pasta lovers around the world–it’s World Pasta Day! This holiday, established in 1995, brings recognition to the hundreds of variations of pasta and toasts to the delicious ways that we eat it. At Mulino, we’re particularly excited to celebrate this versatile staple of Italian culture. Pasta is more than just food; it’s a way of life, a tradition, and a foundation for culinary creativity. We invite you to keep reading to learn more about the world of pasta and its delicious possibilities.
From Flour to Feast
One of the most beautiful aspects of pasta is the art of handcrafted noodles. At Mulino, we take great pride in preserving this time-honored tradition. All of our pasta dishes are freshly prepared in-house daily with local and organic flour and organic eggs. Handcrafted pasta involves the delicate process of mixing the finest ingredients, forming the dough, rolling it out, and cutting it into the desired shape. This meticulous process results in pasta with a distinct texture and flavor that’s unparalleled.
Oodles of Noodles
The wonderful thing about pasta is its versatility. It is said that there are over 600 unique shapes and styles of pasta around the world. Here are a few noteworthy examples of shapes that are always available at Mulino:
- Spaghetti: Long, thin noodles that pair perfectly with tomato-based sauces and simple olive oil and garlic.
- Penne: Short, tube-shaped pasta that captures chunky sauces and ingredients, like a classic penne alla vodka.
- Ravioli: Stuffed pasta pockets filled with a variety of delicious fillings, served with sage butter or tomato sauce.
- Lasagna: Layered pasta sheets, cheese, and meat, baked to perfection for a hearty, comforting meal.
Mouthwatering Dishes
So you want to know what type of pasta to order? The possibilities are endless. Our lasagna—made with beef and pork ragu, bechamel, reggiano, and mozzarella—is a crowd favorite.
