There’s perhaps no better pairing than wine and cheese. It’s a classic for a reason! The acidity of wine plus the creaminess of cheese is just unmatched. Lucky for you, we have an extensive wine menu and a variety of cheese-filled dishes that are perfect for celebrating National Wine & Cheese Day on Tuesday, July 25, 2023! Here are some of our favorite wine and cheese pairings to try at Mulino.
Chianti + Pecorino
Chianti’s robust tannins are a great match for hard texture of pecorino, featured in our charcuterie board. The savory notes of the wine also help to bring out pecorino’s subtle herbiness. And, yes, Chianti also holds up well with the meats on the board too!
Rosé + Mozzarella
Almost all of our pizzas—from the Pesto Chicken to the Margherita to our signature Mulino pizza—are topped with mozzarella, which pairs great with a crisp, delicate rosé given its smooth, soft texture. We carry a slew of rosés as well—still and sparkling, both of which pair well with our pizzas.
Moscato + Gorgonzola
The more cheese and wine, the better! Our four-cheese pizza boasts a tasty gorgonzola agrodolce, a heavier cheese that is best paired with a sweet, light wine like moscato. The acidic fruit in moscato will also help to clean your mouth of gorgonzola’s funky flavors.
Pinot Grigio + Parmigiano Reggiano
Parmigiano plays a big role in most of our pasta dishes. While this versatile cheese is great with almost any red, white, or sparkling wine, it plays extra nicely with a crisp pinot grigio, like our Colterenzioi with notes of lemon, apple, and pear.
Poderi + Ricotta
Cheese for dessert? Yes, please! The fresh ricotta in our housemade cannolis works well with our light-bodied Poderi ’18, which boasts notes of oak, vanilla, cherry, raspberry, and plum, as the cheese helps to soften its rich tannins.
