Our MO at Mulino is to take our patrons on a richly rewarding gastronomic journey across the Italian culinary landscape via simple yet sumptuous cuisine, wines, and a complementary culinary education in the history of authentic cuisine all in a cozy environment. Ever wondered where some of our traditional dishes hail from in Italy? Here’s your guide!
Fritto Misto
This delicious appetizer is popular throughout the coastal region of Italy. It’s thought to have originally hailed from Genoa, but can now be found throughout the country—and pretty much everywhere you go you’ll find a different version of it. Ours is made with fresh calamari, fresh shrimp, fried pickles, and cherry pepper sauce!
Arancini Siciliani
As you may have guessed from the name, these deep-fried rice balls originated in Sicily! One of our most popular appetizers, we stuff ours with taleggio cheese and bolognese, and serve it with a housemade sauce.
Pizza
Pizza’s roots can be traced back to flatbreads prepared by the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans—but our modern, traditional pies were born in Naples, on the western coast of Italy. We offer a variety of tasty pizzas, from our Principessa with bechamel sauce, gorgonzola, pears, walnuts, prosciutto, and honey to the traditional Margherita with fresh cherry tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil.
Amatriciana
One of the most well-known pasta sauces in present-day Roman and Italian cuisine, amatriciana is a spicy red sauce (thanks to a touch of chili) that hails from Amatrice, which is located in the Province of Rieti of Lazio region. It’s a classic!
Carbonara
You can’t go wrong with a carbonara! Aka tonarello, this creamy pasta sauce is made with eggs, guanciale, black peppercorn, and pecorino cheese. Its most associated with Rome and the Lazio region of Italy, and its roots trace back to 1944.
Lasagna
Lasagna’s roots can be traced all the way back to the Middle Ages in the city of Naples, but it’s thought the Greeks also made some version of it as well. We put a little twist on the classic, layering fresh pasta with beef and pork ragu, bechamel and reggiano, and mozzarella.
Tiramisu
The origins of tiramisu are somewhat unknown, but it’s thought to have originated in the region of Treviso, Italy. At Mulino, the classic coffee-infused Italian dessert is prepared with sabayon, coffee, and ladyfingers.
Cannoli
Crunchy and creamy, this is one of the most traditional pastries in Italian cuisine! Its roots are in Sicily, but the dessert can now be found all over the country. Our housemade version contains fresh ricotta and chocolate chips.
