There’s nothing to wine about on National Drink Wine Day (Feb. 18, 2023)! To celebrate, we asked Mulino owner and founder Samad Hachby what some of his favorite wines are right now. Samad has traveled all over the world tasting wine, so he’s quite the connoisseur, and he has some great recommendations. The best part? All of these wines can be enjoyed at Mulino. So make a reservation to come try them on National Drink Wine Day, or any day after—because do you really need an excuse to drink wine?!
Samad’s Pick: Sardinian Wines
Tenute Tondini and Cadinu Wineries are two well-known wineries from Sardinia, an Italian island located in the Mediterranean Sea, that Samad is currently obsessed with. Both wineries are committed to sustainable practices and produce high-quality wines that are most recognized for their unique and distinct flavors. Samad discovered Tondini five years ago (obviously, it holds up!) and Cadinu this past summer—and he visited both of their wineries in Italy.

Tenute Tondini
Located in the town of Villanovaforru (in the heart of Sardina), Tenute Tondini has been producing wines for over 50 years. It is best known for its commitment to sustainable winemaking practices, and it produces a range of wines—reds, whites, and rosés—made from grape varieties such as Cannonau, Vermentino, and Nuragus. Each of the wines feature full-bodied rich flavors.
Cadinu Winery
Cadinu Winery is located in the town of Oliena in the central-eastern part of Sardinia. The winery has been producing wines for over a century and is known for its traditional winemaking techniques and commitment to preserving the natural environment. The wine uses grape varieties like Cannonau, Bovale, and Vermentino to produce reds, whites, and dessert wines—characterized by their rich, complex flavors. They also often aged them in oak barrels to develop a deeper, more intense taste!
