When most people see the chocolate tartufo on our dessert menu, they don’t hesitate to order it—because, well, it’s chocolate! But besides the fact that it has chocolate in it, a lot of you still probably don’t know exactly what tartufo is. Let us break it down for you!
What Is Tartufo?
A traditional Italian dessert that originated in Pizzo, Calabria, tartufo is made from a ball of one or two flavors of gelato typically with melted chocolate, fruit syrup, or frozen fruit (usually a raspberry, strawberry, or cherry) in the middle, and encompassed in a shell of chocolate or cocoa.
Mulino’s Tartufo
At Mulino, we make our chocolate tartufo with chocolate and hazelnut semifreddo, coat it with cocoa, and serve it with a drizzle of fruit syrup and a dusting of powdered sugar. We also offer a lemon tartufo made with lemon semifreddo and lemon sabayon!
Dessert at Mulino
Along with tartufo, we offer several other desserts for those with an after-dinner sweet tooth, including housemade tiramisu, affogato (vanilla gelato topped with espresso), cannolis, and vanilla crème brulee. And if you’re looking for a drink to pair your dessert with, check out our recent blog on our after-dinner beverage offerings!
