Spring is in the air, and you know what that means… plants! We pride ourselves on having a lush, greenery-filled patio that helps to further create a serene atmosphere. Plants also create a garden-like feel on our already stunning outdoor dining space, further upping the ante on alfresco dining. Keep reading for some of the flora we’ve filled our patio with this year.
Fig Tree
Figs thrive in NC, handling our blistery winters just fine! Fun fact: Contrary to popular belief, figs aren’t a fruit, but an inflorescence—aka a cluster of flowers and seeds in a bulbous stem. The juicy plant works great in a variety of dishes, from salads to sauces to vinaigrettes.
Olive Tree
So many of our dishes use olive oil—it’s a staple ingredient here at Mulino! The best olive oil, of course, comes straight from the source, so we deck out our restaurant with olive trees not only because they look pretty, but so we can use the olives in our cooking. Plus, olive trees need full sun, so they love the sun and heat on the open patio here at Mulino.
Palm Tree
You may think it’s odd to see palm trees in North Carolina, but there are actually a handful of species that are native to our state. These tropical plants help create a coastal vibe on our patio. Who doesn’t love a touch of the seaside in the city?!
Monstera Plant
These big-leafed plants—one of the most famous leaf shapes in the world—are also called swiss-cheese plants because of their hole-filled leaves. Fun, right?! They’re super trendy and instantly catch your attention—not to mention they thrive out on our sunny patio.
